El Dr. Ramón Emeterio Betances, uno de los médicos más destacados del siglo XIX, fue pieza clave en la creación del hospital. Su visión de salud pública, sin distinción ni barreras, marcó el espíritu que aún nos define.

Un legado que nació del corazón de Mayagüez

Desde su fundación en 1865, el Hospital San Antonio ha sido símbolo de humanidad, cuidado y compromiso con la salud del pueblo mayagüezano y las comunidades del oeste.

1862

Nace la idea de establecer un hospital en Mayagüez ante la urgente necesidad de servicios médicos para los más necesitados.

1865

Se funda oficialmente el Hospital San Antonio, convirtiéndose en el primer hospital católico de Puerto Rico y en uno de los primeros centros de salud del oeste.

Finales del siglo XIX

El Dr. Ramón Emeterio Betances, prócer puertorriqueño y pionero de la medicina, dirige el hospital. Bajo su liderazgo, se convierte en un modelo de beneficencia, destacándose por su atención a los más vulnerables.

Siglo XX

A lo largo del siglo, el hospital mantiene su compromiso con la salud de la región oeste, adaptándose a los cambios sociales y avances médicos.

1998

Se reorganiza como Hospital San Antonio Inc., fortaleciendo su visión institucional y renovando su estructura administrativa.

2001

Se inaugura una nueva Sala de Emergencias, modernizando el acceso a servicios de urgencia para toda la región oeste.

2024

Se integra al Grupo Hospitalario, adoptando el nombre de Mayagüez Medical Center San Antonio. Comienza una nueva etapa de transformación enfocada en infraestructura, tecnología médica y expansión de servicios especializados.
